Gather around the piano at the Giving Machines

Dear family and friends,

Join me at the Giving Machines near the Bentonville Square to hear and sing my favorite Christmas songs on Tuesday, December 10th. There's a children's choir performing at 6pm. After they finish, I'll play the piano and will have words available on this page to anyone who wants to read or sing along.  See you there!     - Joel Rownak

Songs

Away in a Manger

Away in a manger, no crib for his bed,

The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head;

The stars in the heavens looked down where he lay,

The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay.

Asleep, (Asleep,) asleep, (asleep,)

asleep, the Savior in a stall!

Asleep, (Asleep,) asleep, (asleep,)

asleep, the Lord of all.

The cattle are lowing, the poor baby wakes;

But little Lord Jesus, no crying he makes.

I love thee, Lord Jesus; look down from the sky

And stay by my cradle till morning is nigh.

Asleep, (Asleep,) asleep, (asleep,)

asleep, the Savior in a stall!

Asleep, (Asleep,) asleep, (asleep,)

asleep, the Lord of all.

Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask thee to stay

Close by me forever, and love me, I pray.

Bless all the dear children in thy tender care,

And fit us for heaven, to live with thee there.

Asleep, (Asleep,) asleep, (asleep,)

asleep, the Savior in a stall!

Asleep, (Asleep,) asleep, (asleep,)

asleep, the Lord of all.

Born on Christmas Day

One starry night, so bright

The world was filled with love

Wonderful sight, the light

That shined from up above

The angels proclaimed his holy name

King of kings

This is the story, the power and the glory

Three wise men knelt to pray

A guiding star had led the way

And there he lay born on Christmas day

Joy did he bring, the king

Let every song rejoice

And every heart did sing, hear it ring

The sound of heaven's voice

The angels proclaimed his holy name

King of kings

This is the story, the power and the glory

Three wise men knelt to pray

A guiding star had led the way

And there he lay born on Christmas day

He filled our world (he filled our world) with his love

A heavenly voice (heavenly voice) sang from above

This is the story of the power and the glory

Three wise men came to pray as he lay

Oh-oh, Christ was born, born on Christmas day

The Lord is born, born on Christmas day

Christmas Time is Here

[Verse 1]

Christmastime is here

Happiness and cheer

Fun for all that children call

Their favorite time of year

[Verse 2]

Snowflakes in the air

Carols everywhere

Olden times and ancient rhymes

Of love and dreams to share

[Bridge]

Sleigh bells in the air

Beauty everywhere

Yuletide by the fireside

And joyful memories there

[Verse 3]

Christmastime is here

Families drawing near

Oh, that we could always see

Such spirit through the year

[Piano Solo]

[Bridge]

Sleigh bells in the air

Beauty everywhere

Yuletide by the fireside

And joyful memories there

[Verse 3]

Christmastime is here

Families drawing near

Oh, that we could always see

Such spirit through the year

Have Yourself a 2020 Christmas

Have yourself a 2020 Christmas

Let your mask be tight

From now on

Our faces will be out of sight

Have yourself a Dr. Fauci Christmas

Wash your hands all day

From now on

You need to stay 6 feet away

Here we are in our covid days

Quarantining days of yore

Faithful friends who are dear to us

Gather near to us, no more

Through the years

We all will be together

If the states allow

Get your vaccine twice

If you’re allowed somehow

And have yourself a 2020 Christmas now

Little Jesus

Fairest little Jesus child

Came to earth so meek and mild,

Came to earth to show the way.

Praise we sing on Christmas Day!

Fairest little Jesus child,

From the heavens angels smiled.

We a gift before thee lay.

Praise we sing on Christmas Day!

Mary Did You Know

Mary, did you know

That your baby boy will one day walk on water?

Mary, did you know

That your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?

Did you know

That your baby boy has come to make you new?

This child that you've delivered

Will soon deliver you

Mary, did you know

That your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?

Mary, did you know

That your baby boy will calm a storm with His hand?

Did you know

That your baby boy has walked where angels trod?

And when you kiss your little baby

You've kissed the face of God

Mary, did you know?

The blind will see

The deaf will hear

And the dead will live again

The lame will leap

The dumb will speak

The praises of the Lamb

Mary, did you know

That your baby boy is Lord of all creation?

Mary, did you know

That your baby boy will one day rule the nations?

Did you know

That your baby boy is heaven's perfect Lamb?

This sleeping child you're holding

Is the Great I Am

Oh Mary did you know?

O Sing a Song of Bethlehem

1 O sing a song of Bethlehem,
Of shepherds watching there,
And of the news that came to them
From angels in the air:
The light that shone on Bethlehem
Fills all the world today;
Of Jesus' birth and peace on earth
The angels sing alway.

2 O sing a song of Nazareth,
Of sunny days of joy,
O sing of fragrant flowers' breath,
And of the sinless boy:
For now the flow'rs of Nazareth
In ev'ry heart may grow;
Now spreads the fame of his dear name
On all the winds that blow.

3 O sing a song of Galilee,
Of lake and woods and hill,
Of him who walked upon the sea
And bade the waves be still:
For though, like waves on Galilee,
Dark seas of trouble roll,
When faith has heard the Master's word,
Falls peace upon the soul.

4 O sing a song of Calvary,
Its glory and dismay;
Of him who hung upon the tree,
And took our sins away:
For he who died on Calvary
Is risen from the grave,
And Christ, our Lord, by heav

Samuel Tells of the Baby Jesus

Said Samuel, “Within five years

A night will be as day,

And Baby Jesus will be born

In a land far, far away.”

Hosanna! Hosanna!

Oh, let us gladly sing.

How blessed that our Lord was born;

Let earth receive her King!

Across the sea, in Bethlehem,

Lord Jesus came to earth

As Samuel had prophesied,

And angels sang His birth.

Hosanna! Hosanna!

Oh, let us gladly sing.

How blessed that our Lord was born;

Let earth receive her King!

Stars Were Gleaming

Stars were gleaming, shepherds dreaming;

And the night was dark and chill.

Angels’ story rang with glory;

Shepherds heard it on the hill.

Ah, that singing! Hear it ringing,

Earthward winging, Christmas bringing!

Hearken! We can hear it still!

See the clearness and the nearness

Of the blessed Christmas star,

Leading, guiding; wise men riding

Through the desert dark and far.

Lovely showing, shining, growing,

Onward going, gleaming, glowing,

Leading still, our Christmas star!

The Christmas Song

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire

Jack Frost nipping at your nose

Yule-tide carols being sung by a choir

Folks dressed up like Eskimos

Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe

Helps to make the season bright

Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow

Will find it hard to sleep tonight

They know that Santa's on his way

He's loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh

And every mother's child is gonna spy

To see if reindeer really know how to fly

And so I'm offering this simple phrase

To kids from one to ninety-two

Although it's been said many times, many ways

Merry Christmas to you

And so I'm offering this simple phrase

To kids from one to ninety-two

Although it's been said many times, many ways

Merry Christmas, have a Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to you

The First Noel

The First Noel the angel did say

Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay;

In fields as they lay, keeping their sheep,

On a cold winter's night that was so deep.

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,

Born is the King of Israel.

They looked up and saw a star

Shining in the east beyond them far,

And to the earth it gave great light,

And so it continued both day and night.

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,

Born is the King of Israel.

And by the light of that same star

Three wise men came from country far;

To seek for a king was their intent,

And to follow the star wherever it went.

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,

Born is the King of Israel.

The Little Drummer Boy

Little Baby

Pa rum pum pum pum

Pa rum pum pum pum

I have no gift to bring

Pa rum pum pum pum

That's fit to give our King

Pa rum pum pum pum

Rum pum pum pum

Rum pum pum pum

Shall I play for you!

Pa rum pum pum

On my drum

Mary nodded

Pa rum pum pum pum

The ox and lamb kept time

Pa rum pum pum pum

I played my drum for Him

Pa rum pum pum

I played my best for Him

Pa rum pum pum pum

Rum pum pum pum

Rum pum pum pum

Then He smiled at me

Pa rum pum pum pum

Me and my drum

The Shepherd’s Carol

① Mary, Mary, hush, see the Child.

② Joseph, Joseph, look, see how mild!

③ This is Jesus; this is our King.

④ This is our Savior; his praises we sing.

① All God’s children, come to adore,

② Bringing gifts of love evermore.

③ This is Jesus; this is our King.

④ This is our Savior; his praises we sing.

Welcome to Our World

Tears are falling, hearts are breaking

How we need to hear from God

You've been promised, we've been waiting

Welcome Holy Child

Welcome Holy Child

Hope that You don't mind our manger

How I wish we could have known

But long-awaited Holy Stranger

Make Yourself at home

Please make Yourself at home

Bring Your peace into our violence

Bid our hungry souls be filled

Word now breaking Heaven's silence

Welcome to our world

Welcome to our world

Fragile finger sent to heal us

Tender brow prepared for thorn

Tiny heart whose blood will save us

Unto us is born

Unto us is born

So wrap our injured flesh around You

Breathe our air and walk our sod

Rob our sins and make us holy

Perfect Son of God

Perfect Son of God

Welcome to our world

With Wondering Awe

With wond’ring awe the wisemen saw

The star in heaven springing,

And with delight, in peaceful night,

They heard the angels singing:

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna to his name!

By light of star they traveled far

To seek the lowly manger,

A humble bed wherein was laid

The wondrous little Stranger.

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna to his name!

And still is found, the world around,

The old and hallowed story,

And still is sung in ev’ry tongue

The angels’ song of glory:

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna to his name!

The heav’nly star its rays afar

On ev’ry land is throwing,

And shall not cease till holy peace

In all the earth is growing.

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna to his name!
